Outer Landscape, Inner Landscape

Outer Landscape, Inner Landscape

“When you cease to fear your solitude, a new creativity awakens in you. Your forgotten or neglected wealth begins to reveal itself. You come home to yourself and learn to rest within. Thoughts are our inner senses. Infused with silence and solitude, they bring out the mystery of inner landscape.”

― John O’Donohue, Anam Cara: A Book of Celtic Wisdom

In your journal, draw a simple map like the one depicted below to represent your hoped-for journey through 2021. Include things like forests, cities, lakes, rivers, mountains and deserts to represent different aspects of your inner and outer landscape. Label each area of your map with that aspect. Include goals, treasures and challenges that you might encounter along the way. What does the X or final destination mean to you?

Draw or paint without judgement and then write a few sentences reflecting on the process and product.
