Kimberly Knight Laskowski here, living and learning every day how to live authentically as my ideal self.
I am a progressive (leaning toward universalist) Christian of the mainline, not the post-evangelical, variety. After working for decades in the technology sector, I changed paths to respond to the still small voice calling me to ministry. I eventually earned an M.Div from Candler School of Theology in 2009 after which I continued my pastoral education through the ACPE certified clinical pastoral education at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
While at Candler, I launched an online congregation where I led progressive Christian worship, bible study and community events in Second Life. The merging of my theological training and technology background led me to serve as the online organizer for The Beatitudes Society for two years, and then later as a marketing and social media consultant for The Center for Progressive Renewal. I’ve led social media workshops for communities of faith across America as well as presented a paper at the AAR, was a featured speaker at Big Tent and Wild Goose Festival. I am a member of the United Church of Christ and served as the Minister of Digital Community with Extravagance UCC, an online ministry of our denomination. For a few years I even enjoyed a large readership at a blogger at Patheos.
I’m deeply steeped in liberation, feminist and queer theology. I faithfully reject biblical literalism and inerrancy. My blog can be scathing, snarky and grace-filled all in one post. My faith and my family mean the world to me and I mean to let others know that they need not walk away from God because the church has walked away (or thrown them away).
I live with my wife Betsy and two dogs in the gorgeous little city of Leiden in The Netherlands. I have the immense privilege to work at an international school where as it turns out, we both work and are 100% out, to the point we never, ever think about it one way or another. My daughter, an indigo child if ever there was one, is the light of my life and is completing her degrees in French and horticulture at the University of Georgia.
If I could get my hands on some southern biscuits & stone ground grits over here my heart would sing!
I have a long history of back-pew sitting, gospel music weeping, Wednesday night supper eatin’ and generally trying God’s patience since 1969.
